Pandemic World: How My Communal Past Helps Me Cope

As our modern-day plague began to ripple through the USA, I wondered why community-minded health measures weren’t obvious to everyone? In “Pandemic World: How My Communal Past Helps Me Cope,” I explore how my fifteen years on a hippie commune help me get by today. Maybe it will help you too. I hope you enjoy and share! May all be safe. May all be well.

As published in Honeysuckle Magazine. Click to read the full article:

“In this global pandemic, news from the fronts changes moment by moment, and millions of people are plugged into a whole-world effort: a war to beat a microscopic enemy, ten times as deadly as the flu. With the estimated exponential growth rate, the speed of time seems to have elongated, and the cycle of one day seems like a year or million. Worldwide, the pandemic happened so quickly, yet I feel like I’m watching events unfold in slow motion.”

I was a guest on the wonderful, expansive Heart Over Ego Radio with The Alchemy Sisters and had a great time. We go deep! They ask about and we discuss: energy and touch healing, headaches and migraines, my spiritual path and awakening to God/Universal consciousness, Somatics, The Farm and our 60s hippie trajectory, charismatic leaders, American Commune the movie, spiritual vs. political community, and more. This is my most personally revealing interview to-date. I hope you listen, enjoy, and if so, please share.

On 2.24.2020 we hosted a discussion with Jan Mundo. As a 1960s bohemian teenager attending services in synagogue, Jan had an “’aha’ divine transmission moment” where she realized she was connected directly to God/Universal Consciousness instead of needing intermediary clergy. Later influenced by psychedelic experiences, eastern philosophies, and esoteric spiritual teachers and disciplines, she delved into the exploration of the interconnectedness of all living beings.

She developed the Mundo Method hands-on headache relief therapy in 1970. In 1992, she codified the Mundo Method into self-care instructions, created a mind-body self-care headache management program, and began teaching her program to private clients and holding classes at medical centers, universities, corporations, and conferences — including Kaiser Permanente, Stanford University, UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, New York Headache Center, Apple, LinkedIn, U.S. Association for Body Psychotherapy, and the worldwide online Embodiment Conference.

Mundo’s mission is to awaken headache and migraine sufferers to their own capacity for self-healing. Her self-illustrated book, The Headache Healer’s Handbook published by New World Library in 2018, teaches readers how to do it. Her writing and interviews about her work are published in books, magazines, online, in podcasts, and on the radio. https://theheadachecoach.com

Jan Mundo Interviewed on “New Thinking Allowed” with Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD

How to Heal Headaches and Migraines with Jan Mundo, CMSC, CMT

I’m honored and delighted to be interviewed on “New Thinking Allowed” by host, author, and psychologist Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD!

I’m a longtime fan, of this series of “Conversations on the Leading Edge of Knowledge and Discovery,” dating back to its 1988-2002 run on PBS. The show’s “guests include leading figures in philosophy, psychology, health, science, and spirituality — with a healthy and respectful emphasis on parapsychology.”

Check it out; we go deep. Please share, like, and leave your comments. Enjoy and thanks!

Do Your Clients Know Massage Can Relieve and Prevent Headaches?

IMG_8304.jpg

The U.S. has an estimated 45 million people with chronic headaches. As a massage therapist, you are uniquely positioned to help relieve their pain naturally and drug-free.

In this article for massage and bodywork therapists, I describe how I work with headache and migraine clients, whether they come to a session during an episode or are learning how to prevent their cycles of pain between bouts.

I appreciate MASSAGE Magazine for seeing the value of this work for clients and practitioners — now and eleven years prior to publication of THE HEADACHE HEALER’S HANDBOOK (2018, New World Library), when they first published my writing.
